Today we are proud to announce the integration of Chainlink Verifiable Randomness Function (VRF) into Meme Lordz’s smart contracts and NFT minting system on Binance Smart Chain (BSC). With Chainlink VRF’s random number generator (RNG), users can now mint provably rare Meme Lordz Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs). Along with the Chainlink integration, we are also unveiling our full minting and rarity system, which adds a new dimension to Meme Lordz’s gameplay.
We decided to integrate Chainlink because they offer world-class, open-source decentralized oracle technology that enables developers to build more advanced applications, including Chainlink VRF for cryptographically secure randomness.

Wait, what is Meme Lordz?
Meme Lordz is an open world, blockchain based RPG which allows users to battle, catch & mint wild Meme Lordz as NFT’s. The Meme Lordz world boasts an incredibly rich storyline, dynamic combat system and over 250 different Meme Lordz & 1500 NFT’s to collect! Players will journey through the mysterious land of Memnon on 60+ hour adventure, battling characters from all walks of history and culture against each other. The BSC blockchain is used to immortalize each captured Meme Lord as an immutable NFT.
Using the Chainlink VRF in Meme Lordz
Our in house graphic designer Seymour has put together a wonderful graphic to illustrate the implementation of the Chainlink VRF into the Meme Lordz NFT minting system.
We wanted the Chainlink VRF implementation to be special for our players. Moreover, we wanted to introduce a place within the Meme Lordz game that players could visit to know they have received tamper-proof verifiable randomness on the blockchain. Accordingly, we are introducing the “Special Mint” and Rarity System.
When players find themselves at the Meme Stream in the Capital of Planet Memnon, they will be presented with two minting options:
Standard NFT Mint:
A standard NFT mint resulting in a normal Meme Lord with base stats.
Chainlink VRF ‘Special’ NFT Mint
An NFT mint that requests a random number from Chainlink VRF and uses that to determine an increased rarity tier for the minted Meme Lord.
Special Mint Rarity Tiers
- VRF 50% chance = Woke 1% stat increase
- VRF 35% chance = Blessed 2% stat increase
- VRF 10% chance = Divine 3% stat increase
- VRF 4.9% chance = Celestial 4% stat increase
- VRF 0.1% chance = Transcendent 5% stat increase
As you can see, Meme Lordz minted using the Special Mint feature will receive a 1–5% base stat increase based on the random number generated by Chainlink VRF. These Meme Lordz will also receive a custom title and NFT artwork!
In order to ensure that no one can manipulate the Special Mint feature to unfairly receive the highest stat increases, we needed a secure RNG that could generate verifiable randomness that any of our users could verify directly on-chain. After reviewing various solutions, we selected Chainlink VRF because it’s based on cutting-edge academic research, supported by a time-tested blockchain oracle network, and secured through the generation and on-chain verification of cryptographic proofs that prove the integrity of each random number supplied to smart contracts.
Chainlink VRF works by combining block data that is still unknown when the request is made with the oracle node’s pre-committed private key to generate both a random number and a cryptographic proof. The Meme Lordz smart contract will only accept the random number input if it has a valid cryptographic proof, and the cryptographic proof can only be generated if the VRF process is tamper-proof. This provides our users with automated and verifiable assurances directly on-chain that the Special Mint feature is provably fair and was not tampered with by the oracle, outside entities, or the Meme Lordz team.
